Mauvezin Stronghold retable
Build
in the 11th century by the Counts of Bigorre, rebuilt
by Gaston Febus at the end of the 14th century, it is
wall and its four-corner-keep, a characteristic exemple
of southerm military architecture.

Escaladieu Cistercian Abbey
The cistercian Command appears into 1098 with the fondation
of the abbey of Citeaux. Thisone will give rise to Morimond
with which will be affiliated Escaladieu Towards 1135.
After a first installation on the slopes of Tourmalet,
the monks choose into 1142 their final site in the hospital
valley of Arros. The construction of the abbey of Escaladieu
will be completed into 1160. Its architecture and external
spaces are today the witnesses of the rigour of cistercian
art. Altered until the 18th century, marked by the historical
vicissitudes, the site becomes property of the department
of the High-Pyrénées in 1997, which develops
a program of long term restoration.
In
addition, the abbey of Escaladieu becomes, through varied
cultural programming (concert, exhibitions, conferences,
theatre...) a pleasant and alive cultural place in wich
each one will be delayed with pleasure.
